Kluane Adamek was first elected as the Regional Chief in 2018, and re-elected in 2021 with a commitment to upholding the spirit and vision of A Yukon that Leads, the 2019-2024 AFN Yukon strategic plan set by Yukon First Nations. This strategy and Kluane’s platform commitments in 2021 “people, place, and progress” have been successfully completed! PEOPLE

"Nobody left behind"
  • Increase support for Survivors of Residential and Day Schools and ensure Canada learns the horrors of Residential School by emphasizing that truth must come before reconciliation
  • Advocate for strong policies and programs to keep children, women and citizens safe and healthy in our communities
  • Support to secure increased resources to help respond to mental health and wellness, addictions and trauma in our communities
  • Build upon the existing positive relationships with CYFN and other Indigenous serving organizations to foster a wholistic support system for Yukon First Nations
  • Achieve equitable access for Yukon First Nations to all programs, services and resources offered in Canada and Yukon

PLACE

“Strengthen our place and our space”
  • Promote the full recognition and implementation of modern treaties, self-government and self-determination for all Yukon First Nations, regionally and nationally
  • Amplify the voices of Yukon First Nations exercising their right to implement self-governing agreements, self-determination, and reclaiming jurisdiction
  • Ensure that Yukon First Nations’ distinct needs are reflected in Federal action plans on climate change, environment and protection of lands and waters
  • Build upon the first-ever Yukon First Nation Climate Gathering and Climate Action Fellowship to further advance an Indigenous lens to climate action and the environment
  • Press for long-term financial and governance sustainability planning at the Assembly of First Nations

PROGRESS

"Sharing our stories"
  • Advocate for Yukon First Nations to have equitable access to funding programs and services delivered to First Nations across Canada
  • Formalize a new mechanism with Federal Ministers to both advance our priorities and increase access to Federal Ministers for Yukon First Nation Chiefs and Leaders
  • Solidify an Assembly of First Nations - National Council of Women Chiefs
  • Support for YFN Elders, Women and Youth to gather, share and plan in efforts to ensure those voices are reflected in the work of the regional offices of the Assembly of First Nations
  • Continue to ensure Yukon priorities are included in federal legislation, budgets and policy
